January - March 2014

The first three months of 2014 have come and gone so quickly. I can't believe we are already a quarter of the way through this year. Where does the time go?! Well, here's a recap on what we have done the past 3 months. In January we got our new carpet in (after living 5 weeks without any carpet). If you remember we had our washing machine break which flooded the house resulting in a need to get new carpet. I felt bad for Alan because his entire Christmas break was spent being sick and "living" in a carpet-less house.
In February Alan celebrated his 32nd birthday. Yep, we're getting old. His birthday is right after Valentine's so we kind of combine the two. We went out as a family to Chuck-E-Cheese. I don't know if all Chuck-E-Cheese's are the same, but the one we went to was geared more for 4 year olds and up, so it wasn't the best, although Derek and I found a game we enjoyed playing and spent a bunch of coins on it. The next day our ward was having a Valentine dance and dinner for the adults. We were able to get amazing babysitters to watch our boys and they did a great job. At the party we learned some basic dance steps and enjoyed a nice meal while getting to know fellow members of our ward. We came home to two boys in bed and two awesome babysitters that had fed and bathed our boys as well as cleaned the house and dishes. We are definitely going to use those two again.  Later in the month we had the opportunity to get to know one of Alan's co-workers a bit better. Her name is Jessica. She and her husband, Dominic, have an almost 2 year old boy, Drake, and had invited us to dinner at their home. The dinner and conversation went so well. It was as if we had known them for years with the level of comfort we had with one another. The boys all played nicely and we talked until we could barely keep our eyes open (9:30 pm ... we party hard as parents).
March was a fun filled month. Alan was able to get his Spring break which he was really looking forward to. During the break we finally painted the boys' room. For those of you who don't know, we are living in my sisters house and the boys have been sleeping in my niece's pink room for over a year. I know they don't know or even care, but we wanted to paint it a different color. We ended up choosing a grass green for the walls and the golden color for the trim. We then added glow in the dark star stickers to the walls to make it a little more fun for the boys. We also had my aunt and uncle (Owen and Missy) drive down with their kids from Kansas. They stayed with my other aunt and uncle just a half mile away from us. It was so nice to catch up with them. I haven't seen them since our wedding which was over 3 years ago. We ended the month with another dinner with Jessica and Dominic, this time at our house. I am so glad we became friends with them. It's just so easy to be around them.

Here some pictures of our first quarter adventures. Enjoy.
*Note: There are quite a few pictures. Now, you can't say I didn't warn you :)

Happy Derek

Boys room with their "scooter", "truck" and "racecar" wall hangings

I made this elf hat just as a prototype and Derek loves to wear it.

Basketball shoes we got for $9. Keith loves them even if they are 3 sizes too big

We "inherited" Broby (from Yo-Gabba-Gabba) from our cousins. Keith sleeps with it every night.

Another view of the room with the stickers

Keith has discovered the joy of super heroes and villains

Derek with his "friend" Halsey

We got Frozen on iTunes. I didn't think they would love this movie as much as they do. It ranks up there with Cars, Finding Nemo and Planes.

Quick and easy distracter entertainer: A fitted sheet hung on parallel doors.

The weather warmed up for a few days so we filled up the pool.

This is their "normal" when it comes to watching movies

Fun bath time with bubbles

Valentine/Birthday gifts from Nana. TMNT trikes with lights and sounds.

Valentine gift from mom and dad. Lightning McQueen chair

Had a play date with our friends and the boys discovered their "school" tables and chairs.

The Young Women from my church heart attacked my front door.

Keith has always had perfect posture.

Keith has discovered the joy of relaxing with his hands behind his head.

Working together to line up their cars

Derek loves his cars from the movie Cars

Derek also loves trains. We were able to go to a train depot in downtown Houston

Another form of entertainment with a  fitted sheet. Just a make and bed and have your kids crawl under the sheet.

Another view with the stars

Neighbors had a cotton candy and snowcone machine on a sunny day. Perfect treat.

Derek has discovered coloring with crayons

Derek pulled out their Halloween hats and put them on himself and Keith

We went to the park and Keith wanted to make sand angels. He had a nice rinse off followed by a bath when we got home.

Keith sharing his animal cracker with heroes and villains.

Our friends from Iowa came to visit. We had a play date with a 3 year old and another set of twins.

Hooded blankets are so much fun. This one is a Derek cowboy

Keith as a raccoon

Heroes and villains

Alan and I were able to go to a Rockets game. We have been wanting go since we moved here and finally got to go with some of our friends.

Even though he was injured and unable to play it was still nice to Dwight Howard in person.

Fall 2019

As usual, the fall brings many changes as we begin a new school year. Derek and Keith started grade 2 and Charlie moved to the 3's class...
